Inspiration from Chicago
This week’s inspirational spotlight focuses on a doctor that not only spends her time helping to treat those with cancer, but also spends it raising money for them.
Shikha Jain, MD is a Faculty Hematologist and Oncologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Jain may practice medicine in her white doctor’s coat by day, but on a recent April evening, that coat came off as she showed off her mixology skills at the local bar.
MD by Day, Mixologist by Night
No, Dr. Jain did not get a new job.
She volunteered her time at an event called Drinks with Docs, along with other health professionals, as each one stepped behind the bar, in 30 minute blocks, to shake up and stir great cocktails for patrons of a supporting local restaurant, Bridge House Tavern (www.bridgehousetavern.com) in Chicago, Illinois.
Proceeds For a Good Cause
All tips received for the mixology superstars were then donated to the AYA, or Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA), program of the Lurie Cancer Center of Northwestern (www.cancer.northwestern.edu/
How amazing is that?
Thanks to Dr. Jain and to the others who give their time to help out others in need.
Kudos.
