I found this beautiful plant in the corner of my parents’ home. I thought to myself, “Why is this plant in a time out?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then I thought about just how much of a mom I had become to even think of a plant in this way. I would have never thought of it before I had kids.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But then I also realized that a time out has such a negative connotation. And that corners are also, for whatever reason, so incredibly despised.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“No one puts baby in the corner,” said Patrick Swayze for example, back when he dirty danced. Absolutely no one wants to be there! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So for reasons that are inexplicable – other than my having a wildly nonsensical imagination – I’m advocating that corners get a better rap. I’m asking for us all to reframe how we think of ‘em and to give corners a chance.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Does the corner possibly stand for something bigger, something more? Sure. But I’m not going to define it. Because the “corner” is different for each & every one of us and they all deserve a second chance.
