Small Fish, Big Flex: An Anchovy Art Appreciation Post

Alrighty, folks, today’s art roundup involves a topic I can confidently say will gross some of you out, while others will smack their lips and delight at the mere thought.

Anchovies are tiny, salty overachievers packed with omega-3s for heart and brain health, loaded with protein, and naturally rich in calcium and iron because you eat the whole fish. They’re low on the food chain, which means fewer toxins and more nutrients per bite.

Small fish. Big flex.

Components of the art:

1. I first came across that middle image right there, from an account called @vesna.pantovic.art – an artist that fares from Serbia and creates clay paintings that are drool-worthy. No pun intended.

2. Now I found a lovely image of anchovies, laid out in symmetric plates, by @theanchovybar, a San Francisco wine establishment that I sadly can’t visit because it’s all the way on the other coast (I’m in the tri-state – damn!). Nonetheless, those plates are the 💣.

2. That beautiful box of anchovies I grabbed from a post by @daywithmei, a James Beard nominated chef from NYC who posts quite a lot about both anchovies and sardines. Not only was this particular anchovy box a beauty, but the others on her feed are, too.

4. Lastly, I added an anchovy background from @insiderfood – because is it really an anchovy post if you don’t cover the entire thing in anchovies? It’s from a post about a sauce that takes 3 entire years to make, & 50-60 lbs of anchovies to make just a liter from! If you want to see how, they show it all!

Be sure to take a look at these accounts before you go and give them a follow, or purchase their stuff. How cool are the artists of thisworld?

Are you an anchovy-lover? I am.
